Grand Theft Auto 6, set for release in Fall 2025 according to Take-Two Interactive, is expected to push current consoles to their limits. However, concerns have been raised about the game's performance on the Xbox Series S, which will be five years old by the time of release.

In a recent discussion, Digital Foundry's John Linneman expressed doubts about GTA 6's performance on the Series S, suggesting that the console may only be able to run the game at 720p, while the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X are expected to target 30 fps at 1440p.

Although these claims lack hands-on evidence, Digital Foundry has a track record of accurate performance estimations. Additionally, several recent titles, such as Alan Wake 2 and Baldur's Gate 3, have shown noticeably worse performance on the Series S compared to other current-gen consoles.

Given the age of the Series S and the pressure on Rockstar to deliver a true next-gen experience, the console's performance with GTA 6 remains a concern. Rumors suggest that developers are prioritizing optimization for the PS5 Pro, potentially leaving the Series S with less attention.

Analysts predict that GTA 6 may struggle to run above 720p on the Xbox Series S.

While GTA 6 is not currently confirmed for PC, many expect a later release for the platform. Speculation also points to a potential port on Nintendo's next console. As the release of GTA 6 approaches, it remains to be seen how the game will perform across different platforms and whether the Xbox Series S will face significant limitations.
