GTA 6 Hype Builds With 2024 The Game Awards Nomination
GTA 6 is facing stiff competition for Most Anticipated Game at The Game Awards, proving that the hype surrounding the game is real.
The Game Awards, Geoff Keighley's annual celebrity fueled video game showcase which confusingly is barely even about the awards anymore, will return this December. The nominee list for the 2024 showcase has just been revealed, which includes Grand Theft Auto 6 running for Most Anticipated Game.
While Astro Bot, Black Myth: Wukong and Metaphor: ReFantazio will duke it out for several nominations, including the coveted Game of the Year awards, Rockstar Games' upcoming title is one of the nominees for the Most Anticipated Game award. In 2023, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth took home the trophy, beating Hades 2, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, Star Wars Outlaws, and Tekken 8.
Aside from Grand Theft Auto 6, the other nominated titles for the same award are Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Ghost of Yotei, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond, and Monster Hunter Wilds. With the nominees now official, the next round of voting begins. Fans can vote for their pick through December 11 ahead of 2024 The Game Awards, which kicks off the day after on December 12.
GTA 6 should win this award pretty easily. It's one of the most expensive games in history with Take-Two Interactive proclaiming it will set a new creative benchmark in the entertainment industry. It's such a big game that other companies like Xbox and Ubisoft have hinted at adjusting their release pipeline to stay as far away from it as possible. In fact, even Take-Two doesn't want to release its games close to GTA 6, with at least two quarters separating it from the launch of Borderlands 4.
Unfortunately, while the nomination is good news and could possibly be a sign of a potential trailer 2 reveal for GTA 6 at the said event, it doesn't change the fact that we've heard virtually nothing about the game for over a year now - and Rockstar usually does news drops at its own pace rather than aligning with events.
All we have is the return-to-office work mandate, the occasional interviews from former Rockstar employees, and Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick's confirmation that it's still set for a Fall 2025 release. This silence has led to some pretty far out theories about GTA 6, including something related to the moon.
If we don't get news about GTA 6 on December 12, we're guaranteed to hear more about it when its name is announced as the winner of the Most Anticipated Game award.
