The Grand Theft Auto 6 Moon Theory refers to either one of two popular theories surrounding the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer. The theory first gained traction on Reddit after a now-deleted user connected the hints left by Rockstar Games ahead of the official reveal of the game's first trailer.

According to the theory, Rockstar purposely used a Waning Gibbous moon to tease the first GTA 6 trailer in a promotional screenshot for the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations in Grand Theft Auto Online on September 29, 2023[1]. Rockstar would later announce the release date of the GTA 6 trailer on December 1, 2023, which falls during a Waning Gibbous moon phase.

A year later, fans spotted a similarly prominently featured Waning Gibous Moon on November 1, 2024 as part of a community update ahead of the release of the Grand Theft Auto Online update, Agents of Sabotage. Many believed that the trailer would be released or announced on the next scheduled Waning Gibbous moon phase on November 22, 2024.

Unlike with GTA 6 Trailer 1, the GTA 6 Moon Theory surrounding the game's next trailer turned out to be false.
