To perform a successful heist, there are a few things you should keep in mind. If possible, all players participating in a heist should have headsets and microphones. The ability to talk to one another during the heist will be a huge benefit. Heists require planning and teamwork, so you and your Crew need to be prepared ahead of time.

First, you need a Heist Leader. If you're in the middle of a Heist, only the Leader's progress will be saved. To be the Heist Leader, you must have reached at least Level 12, own a high-end apartment, and have a planning board in your apartment. You need to also have enough money to front the cost of the heist.

The Heist Leader will choose the roles the other Crew members have and also decide how the payout will be divided. It's important for the Leader to know the strengths and weaknesses of the other players, to assign roles accordingly. You'll have different roles during each part of the heist.

While communication and planning are important to heists, your team's equipment will also influence your success. For example, if you have guns with silencers, that could make the difference in a heist where you need to take out enemies stealthily. As you perform heists, you'll unlock new equipment, vehicles, and clothing that will help you.

If you understand heists and are hoping to pick up a higher payout than what they usually provide, you can earn Special Heist Completion bonuses. If you pause the game and open up the Stats menu, you can check "Awards" to see which challenges you've completed. While each is a one-time deal, they come with nice rewards:

  • First Time – The very first time you make it to the end of the Finale for a given heist, you'll receive bonus money.
  • All in Order Challenge – If you play through all of the heists, including Setups, in order, you'll receive $1,000,000.
  • Loyalty Challenge – If you play through all of the heists, including Setups, with the same group of people, you'll receive $1,000,000.
  • Criminal Mastermind Challenge – Finally, if you play through all of the heists on Hard, including Setups, in order with the same group of people and you never lose a life, you'll receive $10,000,000.
