GTA V Is Now Thinking With Portals

From GTA BOOM Wiki

The modding community for GTA V is one filled with unbridled creativity, churning out newer and newer, entirely original creations. However, sometimes GTA V just needs something from another game or show. Sometimes, GTA V is made into something more by taking something from well known IPs.

Sometimes, GTA V needs a bit more science.

Gta V Is Now Thinking With Portals

The device which is the centerpiece of Valve's immensely popular sci-fi puzzle franchise has been modded into GTA V. We are of course speaking of the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device, or, as it is more commonly referred to, the portal gun. The weapon has the ability to shoot a small energy discharge, which, upon contact with certain surfaces, forms into a human-sized wormhole. Upon firing a second energy discharge, the two portals are connected, and can be traversed. The critically acclaimed Portal games feature a set of consecutive levels where puzzles need to be solved using this device (hopefully the mod's author will get the speed and jump gel into GTA V as well, not to mention the companion cube).

The mod is very much a work in progress. As videos on the mod's page will show, while the proper portal gun model is now in-game, it hasn't been applied yet. As things stand now, the portal gun is just a regular pistol, and the portals are two bouncy balls, one blue and the other grey instead of orange. Obviously getting a proper portal gun into GTA V and having it function as advertised is a massive programming challenge, but progress is being made and the mod is constantly updated, so soon we'll all be happily testing all throughout Los Santos!

Aperture Science is not responsible for any injury, death, or world-ending paradox.
