In a significant shift from their previously strained relationship with the modding community, Rockstar Games has officially endorsed a Brazilian roleplay (RP) server for Grand Theft Auto 5. The developer is offering a substantial in-game cash bonus to players who join the server between August 19, 2024, and September 1, 2024.

This endorsement follows Rockstar's acquisition of Cfx.re nearly a year ago, the team behind FiveM, a popular platform for hosting modded GTA 5 servers with a strong emphasis on RP experiences. The acquisition hinted at a potential shift in Rockstar's stance on modding, and this recent endorsement reinforces that notion.

To encourage participation, Rockstar is offering a generous in-game cash bonus. Existing players will receive GTA$400,000, while new players from Brazil and Portugal will get an impressive GTA$800,000, which is particularly beneficial for new players.

Unfortunately, this offer is limited to PC players, as FiveM is not yet available on consoles. However, rumors of FiveM potentially expanding to consoles have been circulating since the Cfx.re acquisition.

The modding community has been instrumental in prolonging the lifespans of many games, such as Skyrim and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Zombies. Modders have created a wide array of new experiences, ranging from custom campaigns and characters to entirely new game modes.

By embracing modding, Rockstar acknowledges the value that the community brings to its games and recognizes the potential for increased engagement and revenue. A thriving modding scene can keep players invested in a game for additional years, leading to increased sales and a dedicated fan base. Rockstar likely witnessed this firsthand through GTA 5's RP servers on FiveM, which may have influenced their decision to partner with Cfx.re for Grand Theft Auto 6 and officially support modding.

FiveM offers thousands of custom servers to choose from, all created by the passionate community.

It is hoped that the modding community will retain the same creative freedom they enjoyed before the acquisition. Given Rockstar Games' track record, modders likely won't need to be overly concerned about censorship issues. This development could even lead to a future where Rockstar actively supports modding tools and encourages players to create their own unique experiences within the world of GTA Online.

With GTA 6 on the horizon, Rockstar may be aiming to harness the creativity and dedication of its fans to extend the life of GTA Online and foster a thriving ecosystem of player-driven content.
