Rockstar Games Almost Delayed The First Official GTA 6 Trailer Announcement

From GTA BOOM Wiki

Apparently, Sam Houser wanted to mess with a certain industry insider who had leaked the GTA 6 trailer announcement earlier.

Industry insiders are a boon and a curse. In video games, they're responsible for telling us all the cool stuff that's about to happen before we're supposed to hear about it — but they're also the ones who spoil the surprise. Sometimes, that can draw ire from publishers, and new reports indicate those of us excitedly waiting for Grand Theft Auto 6 footage narrowly dodged that ire recently.

While you'll seldom hear Grand Theft Auto fans complain about a legit source like Jason Schreier "leaking" credible information beforehand, Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have, on separate occasions, made it clear that they don't appreciate it when these plugs beat them to the punch. Apparently it's gotten to a point that some at Rockstar wanted to adjust the schedule just to "mess" with a particular insider.

Jason Schreier is one of the most trusted industry insiders in video games.

In a reply on GTAForums about Rockstar Games president Sam Houser and what's said to be his "unchecked" vision for Grand Theft Auto 6, Tez2 confirmed that there are still people within the company who can stop the co-founder from doing whatever he wants even though his brother, Dan Houser, and Leslie Benzies are no longer part of the company.

According to Tez2, Schreier's earlier leak had given Houser the idea to "push back the Nov announcement by a week just to screw Schreier, but he was talked out of it" by the other executives at Rockstar like Aaron Garbut, Rob Nelson, and Jennifer Kolbe, among others.

Tez2 was talking about the official announcement of the release of GTA 6's trailer last year, which preceded Take-Two's November earnings call. Pushing it back by a week wouldn't have affected Rockstar much, but it would've meant that Schreier would have had some explaining to do. The delay ultimately didn't happen, but it's telling that Houser wanted to respond to Schreier.

It will be almost a year since the trailer's announcement and subsequent record-breaking release. So far, Rockstar has done a great job keeping GTA 6 info private, unlike in previous years that saw an in-development build of the game leak online and the first GTA 6 trailer itself being leaked ahead of its official release.

It remains unclear if we'll get a new GTA 6 trailer before the year ends. The only thing confirmed for now is that Take-Two will hold its next earnings call soon and Rockstar didn't acknowledge Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas turning 20 over the weekend.

This silence might be all worth it if we get a second GTA 6 trailer and a confirmation that Rockstar is working on a remaster of Grand Theft Auto 4. A fan can certainly dream. For now, though, GTA fans can keep themselves busy by playing Grand Theft Auto Online, which recently welcomed its latest weekly update following the release of its most popular mode ever.
