Rockstar Games appears to be dusting off one of its open world classics from 2006. Bully, the studio's quirky take on school-life mayhem, has received its first development update in over a decade, generating a lot of buzz among its dedicated fanbase.

The development came to light when Rockstar insider Tez2 spotted a new development branch, dubbed "qabeta," quietly added to the Steam version of Bully: Scholarship Edition. For those unfamiliar with the game, Bully trades GTA's gritty crime drama for the treacherous halls of Bullworth Academy, where players step into the shoes of troublemaker Jimmy Hopkins, whose main focus in school is dropping cherry bombs in faculty toilets.

Rockstar recently announced that PC players will finally gain access to GTA+ subscription features in early 2025, a service that already includes the mobile version of Bully for console subscribers. The current PC version of Bully has been plagued by persistent crash issues, making it a less-than-ideal addition to any subscription service.

This development branch is probably a sign that Rockstar is polishing up one of their best-selling titles on their Game Launcher before its potential inclusion in the PC version of GTA+. Though some fans might be hoping for a sequel or remaster, the reality likely points to more modest ambitions.

With Rockstar's primary focus firmly set on Grand Theft Auto 6, any major Bully developments seem out of the question, at least for the immediate future. The update follows recent news of Bully receiving multiple new age classifications in Taiwan, though this may simply relate to the game's availability on current-gen consoles through GTA+.

Despite being 18 years old, Bully maintains a special place in gaming history. For now, PC players can at least hope that the frequent crashes and technical issues might finally be addressed, even if they'll have to wait longer for any new misadventures at Bullworth Academy.
