Rockstar North
Rockstar North is the trade name of British video game development company, Rockstar Games UK Limited, which previously operated as DMA Design Limited and Rockstar North Limited.
Based in Edinburgh, Scotland, Rockstar North is the long-time and primary developers of the Grand Theft Auto franchise.
Former classmates David Scott Jones, Mike Dailly, Russell Kay, and Steve Hammond, were the original founding members of DMA Design Limited, which operated under the same name until 2001 when the studio, following the success of Grand Theft Auto 1 and Grand Theft Auto 2, was sold to Take-Two Interactive.
After the acquisition, Take-Two renamed DMA Design as Rockstar North and it has since been part of the Rockstar Games label.
Rockstar North most recently worked on Grand Theft Auto 5 and its online counterpart, GTA Online. Its next title is Grand Theft Auto 6, which won The Most Anticipated Game Award at The Game Awards 2024 and a similar accolade at The Golden Joystick Awards.
As Rockstar Games' longest tenured video game production company, Rockstar North has produced a combined total of 33 games throughout its lifetime.
